Description

What do these 2,400-year-old stone-carved characters sound like when converted directly into audio waves? In this video, I transform the ancient Lycian script into unreal sound using creative coding and parametric wave synthesis. As each historic character is traced in real time, its vertical coordinates, angular stems, and geometric enclosures are mapped exponentially to waveform frequencies, allowing an extinct Mediterranean language to generate live audio on screen. From familiar Greek-inspired forms like Delta (Δ), Epsilon (E), Kappa (K), and Lambda (Λ) to unique Lycian characters like directional arrows (↑), crowned M/W crests, starburst asterisks (*), bisected diamonds, central crosses (+), tridents, and lightning zigzags, every single letterform carries a distinct visual architecture that yields a completely unique acoustic fingerprint. #Visualization #AudioVisualization #MathAnimation #ProceduralAnimation #GenerativeArt #Physics #letter #alphabet #JavaScript #p5js #letter #shape
