F-15E Crews Ran Out of Missiles. One Dropped a Bomb on an Iranian Drone — and Missed #iran #usarmy

On the night of April 13, 2024, the Pentagon counted more than 300 air threats launched at Israel by Iran and its proxies. Within roughly twenty minutes, Air & Space Forces Magazine wrote, most of the F-15E fighters had fired all eight of their air-to-air missiles — and one crew still carried a laser-guided bomb built for targets on the ground. The bomb made a big explosion, and the drone came straight out of the cloud. Following the pilots' own accounts and the medal citations, this short walks through the misses, the decision that stopped the attempts, and a 32-minute reload with the engines still running. The full night — the 300 threats and the U.S. Air Force and Navy intercepts — is in the main film (about 14 minutes): [main film link — added after upload] Sources · U.S. Department of Defense — Press briefing, April 15, 2024 · The War Zone — interview with F-15E pilots on the laser-guided bomb attempt (September 23, 2025); interviews with F-15E crews (2024–2025) · Air & Space Forces Magazine — "Silver Star Airpower" (2024–2025); "From North Carolina to Shooting Down Drones in 22 Hours" (May 12, 2025) · CNN — "American fighter pilots explain how they fought an overwhelming Iranian drone swarm in total darkness" (November 15, 2024) · Distinguished Flying Cross citations (DFC Society reprint) Use of U.S. Department of Defense material does not imply Department of Defense endorsement.
