Gold of Rome (1961) | Classic WWII War Drama | Full Movie

A harrowing chapter of history brought to life with raw intensity. In Gold of Rome (1961), director Carlo Lizzani masterfully recreates the tense days of October 1943 in Nazi-occupied Rome. The German commander issues a ruthless ultimatum to the Jewish community: deliver 50 kilograms of gold within 36 hours, or 200 heads of households will be deported. As the community scrambles to meet the impossible demand, a profound internal struggle unfolds. While some believe the gold will buy their safety and freedom from death, others—like the young and defiant Davide (Gérard Blain) and Giulia (Anna Maria Ferrero)—fear it is a cruel trap. Set against the backdrop of the Roman Ghetto, this masterpiece of Italian Neorealism explores sacrifice, betrayal, and the desperate hope for survival. Featuring a stellar international cast including Jean Sorel, Gold of Rome is a poignant reminder of the strength and tragedy of the human spirit. Now available in high definition.
