Description
In the year 64 AD, Rome was burning — and the emperor Nero blamed a small, powerless sect following a Jewish teacher who had been crucified thirty years earlier. By every rule of history, this movement should have vanished within a generation. Instead, it outlasted the empire that tried to destroy it and grew into the largest movement the world has ever known.
This is Episode 1 of The Church Through the Ages — a cinematic documentary series tracing the full 2,000-year story of the Christian Church, from the empty tomb to today. In this opening episode, we explore how a persecuted sect in a forgotten corner of the Roman Empire began the most unlikely rise in human history.
In this episode:
Why first-century Judea was ready for a Messiah
Who Jesus of Nazareth was, and why Rome executed him
The claim that changed everything: the empty tomb
How the Roman roads, seas, and Greek language helped the faith spread
Paul the Apostle — from persecutor to greatest missionary
Nero, the Great Fire of Rome, and the first persecution of Christians
The paradox at the heart of church history: the harder Rome pushed, the faster the movement grew
