Description
In this week’s Dark Footage, we follow four pieces of footage that reveal how modern warfare is breaking old assumptions about protection, distance, and control.
In Ukraine, a Russian FPV drone slams directly into the windshield of a Ukrainian Iveco LMV, with the entire strike captured from inside the cab. The impact shows, in brutal detail, how even a cheap improvised drone can threaten armored vehicles at close range — and how transparent armor is now one of the last thin layers standing between survival and catastrophe.
In southern Syria, footage appears to show a largely intact section of a US THAAD interceptor lying in the sand. If authentic, it is more than battlefield debris: it is a potential intelligence windfall, exposing part of one of America’s most advanced missile-defense systems to foreign exploitation, reverse engineering, and closer study than it was ever meant to survive.
At Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, Ukraine’s attack on one of Russia’s key fallback naval bases may have done more than damage infrastructure. Under live attack, the defenses around the frigate Admiral Makarov appear to be pushed into confusion, raising bigger questions about how even modern warships cope when drone swarms, wave clutter, fires, and multi-axis threats begin to overwhelm the entire defensive picture.
And at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, a US KC-135 tanker arrives at RAF Mildenhall covered in battle-damage patches after a drone strike deep in what was once considered a secure rear area. The scars on its fuselage tell a larger story: long-range one-way drones are erasing the idea of sanctuary, turning distance into a volume problem and putting the aircraft that sustain American airpower at growing risk.
