The BEST Way to Clean Your Shower & Tub (The Chinese Way)

How to clean shower glass the natural way — the chemistry behind soap scum (calcium stearate) and why vinegar dissolves it when nothing else can. Most people don't know that shower soap scum is not soap at all. It is calcium stearate — a chemical compound formed when fatty acids in soap react with calcium and magnesium ions in hard water. You cannot wash it off with soap and water because soap and water are what created it. Vinegar (acetic acid) dissolves the calcium bonds. Citrus adds d-limonene, a natural solvent that cuts the fatty acid component at the same time. What almost no cleaning video tells you: mineral deposits left on shower glass for months or years begin to etch into the silica in the glass itself. The clouding becomes permanent — not on the glass, but in it. Prevention is the only cure. For grout: the pink is Serratia marcescens (bacteria). The black is Cladosporium (mold). Bleach does not penetrate porous grout — it only removes the color. Hydrogen peroxide at 3% (the brown pharmacy bottle, under $2) actually kills the organism. Use it instead.
