Description
Natural oven cleaning without chemicals - baking soda (pH 8–9) beats commercial oven cleaner (pH 13–14) every time. Here is the Chinese grandmother method.
Most oven cleaners use sodium hydroxide - pH 13–14, the same alkaline level as drain cleaner - which slowly eats the enamel coating inside your oven with every use. The self-clean button heats to over 900°F and is the single most common cause of a blown thermal fuse, a repair that costs $100 or more. The oven manufacturer does not tell you either of those things.
A baking soda paste at pH 8–9, left overnight, works through saponification - breaking fat molecules into glycerol and water-soluble soap molecules that wipe away cleanly. No fumes. No enamel damage. No chemical residue baking into your food next time you cook.
What you need:
Baking soda
White vinegar
Water
Nothing else.
Try it this weekend and come back and tell me in the comments how long that grease had been in there - and whether the paste surprised you. Tell me your city and how old your oven is. I read every one.
My name is Mei. I share the old ways of keeping a home - passed from mother to daughter in the Chinese countryside, before there was a product for every surface. New videos every week. 🍵
