Building stairs can be frustrating, so we teamed up with The Home Depot for this project- Let’s get it done! @HomeDepot #homedepotpartner #THDPro First, I put down a piece of sample flooring, then I measure from the floor to the top of the landing- 75 ¾ That gives me ten risers at 7 9/16ths and a run of 9 ½. This job is in the middle of nowhere, so I saved time and money by having The Home Depot deliver everything I need - lumber, fasteners and the tools. To lay off the stringer I put one side of the square at 9 ½ and the other at 7 9/16ths; then I mark it out. But I know what you’re thinking- there’s gotta be a faster way. There is! Check out these stair gauges I bought. I just clamp them down and they hold the square exactly where it needs to be. Next, I use are circular saw to cut out the stringer being careful not to go past my mark. Now it’s really tempting to want to karate chop these pieces off, but a reciprocating saw does a much cleaner job.
