Description

How can you support the weight of a deck, so it doesn’t collapse? These posts transfer the weight of the deck above down onto the patio, and under the posts we poured two 24” deep concrete piers. I need to tie the concrete patio under the deck into the piers. I start by drilling four 5/8ths inch holes 6 inches deep. Next, I blow out the holes with compressed air and scrub them out with a brush. Finally, I blow them out one last time- I don’t want any dust. I measure from the top of the pier up to the rebar grid in the patio. Then I bend eight pieces of ½” rebar into an “L” shape. I’m going to anchor the steel rebar into the concrete with a two-part epoxy. We dug these piers and had them inspected when we did the rest of the footings for the house. The bottom of these footings will be more than 30” deep, which is lower than the ground freezes in our area, so this slab should never heave from frost. Now I tie the “L” pieces into the rest of the rebar grid. Once we’re done, this deck will be strong enough to park a truck on. @hausplans #build #howto #construction #diy #contractor #deck #patio
