Description

Knights hoisted onto their horses with cranes? It never happened. According to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, a full suit of battle armor usually weighed 45 to 55 pounds (20 to 25 kg), less than most modern soldiers have carried into battle, and the weight was spread over the whole body. A man in well-fitted armor could run, lie down, get up again and mount a horse without help. The French knight Boucicaut is recorded climbing the underside of a ladder in full armor using only his hands. The crane story began as a late 19th-century joke and was made famous by the 1944 film Henry V. Did you believe the crane story? Animated history for educational purposes. Source: Dirk H.
