He was a writer, political thinker, revolutionary, diplomat, and one of the most influential voices of the anti-colonial era. Before his death at just 36, Fanon had produced ideas that would influence African liberation movements, Black Power activists, and generations of thinkers wrestling with race, identity, power, and political freedom. But what exactly did Fanon believe? In this documentary, we trace Fanon’s transformation from a young man growing up in Martinique to a psychiatrist working in colonial Algeria—and eventually to a committed participant in the Algerian independence struggle. We explore Black Skin, White Masks, his groundbreaking examination of race, identity, language, and the psychological effects of racism. We then examine The Wretched of the Earth, the book that made Fanon one of the most controversial political thinkers of the 20th century. The book was banned in France shortly after publication in 1961. Fanon was terminally ill at the time, and he died only days after receiving a copy of his final work. the deeper story is Fanon himself: his politics, his experiences, his criticism of colonialism, his warnings about post-independence political elites, and his vision of genuine liberation. This is the story of Frantz Fanon—the psychiatrist who became a revolutionary thinker, the writer whose books crossed continents, and the man whose ideas survived long after his death. #frantzfanon #BlackHistory #blackculture #africanhistory #historydocumentary #blackhistorymonth
