Description
Argentina was once home to a Black population that made up nearly 37% of its people. Today, the country’s official census records a fraction of that number. So what happened to Argentina’s Black population—and how did an entire community seemingly disappear from the nation’s history?
In this documentary, we investigate the forgotten history of Black Argentina, tracing the systems, policies, and social pressures that contributed to the erasure of Afro-Argentine identity. From the transatlantic slave trade and the wars of independence to racial reclassification and the removal of race questions from national censuses, we uncover how a country’s understanding of its own history was shaped by what it chose to count—and what it chose to leave out.
We examine the experiences of Afro-Argentines today, the treatment of African migrants, controversies surrounding Argentine football, and the consequences of dismantling institutions established to combat discrimination. We also investigate the reported circumstances surrounding Benin’s 2026 football match against Argentina and what the episode reveals about power, money, and inequality in international sport.
Black Culture Unlocked is about truth—real history, real stories, and real awareness. We reject rewritten narratives and reclaim the Black story through knowledge, memory, and independent thinking. Subscribe and join the movement.
