Middle-earth’s First Age Was Far Darker Than LOTR - Lord of the Rings Explained

Long before The Lord of the Rings, before Sauron ruled Mordor and even before the Rings of Power were forged, Middle-earth was already home to wars, kingdoms, heroes, monsters, and one enemy far more powerful than Sauron. In this video, we’re going through the history of the First Age of Middle-earth, from the return of the Noldor and the rise of the great Elven kingdoms of Beleriand to the wars against Morgoth, the Silmarils, the great dragons and Balrogs, and the events that ultimately lead to the War of Wrath and the destruction of much of Beleriand. This is the age of Fëanor, Fingolfin, Finrod, Beren and Lúthien, Túrin Turambar, Gondolin, Nargothrond, Doriath, Glaurung, Ancalagon, and Morgoth himself. And many of the people, places, and conflicts we encounter in The Lord of the Rings thousands of years later can be traced directly back to what happened here. The First Age is where Middle-earth's greatest legends began, and where some of its greatest tragedies took place.
