Description
🔧 Everything I learned fixing HVAC for 25 years, in one plain-English book.
📘 THE HVAC SURVIVAL GUIDE - get it here: https://raydutton.com
It is the first real cold morning of the year. The vents are blowing, but the air feels lukewarm, and you can hear the backup heat grinding away. Here is what nobody told you: that heat pump is the same box that cooled your house all summer, just running backwards. It does not make heat, it moves it, and the heating side is where the money quietly leaks out.
I spent twenty-five years putting these in, and sitting in the office while the bills got written. So in this one I walk you through five things your installer never sat you down and explained, cheapest first. The first three you can fix yourself from the wall in five minutes. The last two are not on you at all, and the worst one is the machine itself, the one you already paid good money for.
None of this is hidden because it is complicated. It is hidden because there is good money in you not knowing it.
CHAPTERS
0:00 The cold morning, and how a heat pump actually works
1:13 Number 1: The cold air and steam (normal defrost, not a repair)
3:18 Number 2: The emergency-heat button that doubles your bill
5:37 Number 3: The deep setback (and the fan) that fire the strips
7:18 Number 4: The reversing valve they call a dead compressor
9:09 Number 5: Wrong size, wrong type, decided in your driveway
11:13 How to tell, and what to ask before you sign
11:56 Your weekend checklist
Tell me what state you are in and how old your system is, because a heat pump up in the deep cold and one down south are living two completely different lives. I read every one.
I am Ray Dutton. Keep your cool, and I will see you in the next one.
