The Vietnam War Unit That Hunted The VC With Dogs (You've Never Heard Of Them)

The ambush comes fast, a few seconds of fire, and then nothing. By the time your rifle is up the enemy is gone, melted into the green. How do you catch an enemy who refuses to be found? The Army's answer was not a gunship or a battalion. It was five men and a Labrador retriever. This is the story of the Combat Tracker Teams: a method borrowed in secret from the British in Malaysia, the bloodhounds that failed, why a gun dog beat the German Shepherd at hunting men, the bounty the enemy put on the dogs, what the numbers actually say about a unit that never kept tidy statistics, and what happened to the dogs when the Americans went home.
