Description
Before highways crossed the mountains of British Columbia, there was the Kettle Valley Railway.
Built through some of the toughest terrain in the province, the KVR crossed mountain ranges, climbed steep grades, passed through tunnels and over trestles, connecting communities across southern British Columbia.
Passenger service ended in 1964, and the final freight train ran in 1989 — but much of the old railway can still be explored today.
These historic photographs offer a glimpse back at the railway that helped shape southern B.C.
