Description

The D.A. Thomas was the largest and most luxurious sternwheeler ever to navigate the Peace River in northern British Columbia and Alberta. Launched in 1916, this remarkable riverboat was built to support northern development but became one of the least profitable vessels on the river. From luxurious passenger accommodations to dangerous river passages, groundings and even sinking, the D.A. Thomas had a troubled history. In 1930, she made her final journey before being abandoned near Fort Fitzgerald. Discover the rise and fall of one of Canada's most impressive historic sternwheelers and a forgotten chapter of Peace River transportation history.
