Description
In 1862, Catherine O’Hare Schubert travelled west with her husband Augustus, while pregnant and caring for their three young children.
Her journey began in Fort Snelling, Minnesota and eventually brought her to Fort Garry, where they joined the Overlanders of 1862. From there came months of hardship crossing the Prairies and Rocky Mountains before finally reaching the Kamloops area of British Columbia, where she gave birth to her daughter Rose.
Catherine later settled in Armstrong, BC, and today rests in Lansdowne Cemetery.
Her remarkable journey is a story of courage, endurance and resilience... and an important chapter in British Columbia history.
