Description
They disappeared into the mountains every morning...
Thousands of British Columbians earned their living deep beneath the earth. Armed with little more than carbide lamps, drills, and determination, they descended into dark tunnels where cave-ins, explosions, poisonous gases, and rockfalls were constant dangers.
This reel combines rare historic photographs with footage from abandoned mines that still remain today. The machinery may be silent, but these tunnels tell the story of the miners whose hard work helped build British Columbia.
Every abandoned mine has a story. Every tunnel was carved by someone whose name history has almost forgotten.
