On June 28, 2024, police were called after 8-year-old Martonio Wilder was reported missing from his home. His mother, Lashanda Wilder, claimed he had run away during the night. Officers searched the neighborhood, deployed a helicopter, and began preparing an Amber Alert—but investigators soon noticed troubling inconsistencies in the story. When police eventually obtained a search warrant and entered the home, they made a devastating discovery in the attic: Martonio’s body had been concealed inside a sleeping bag and black trash bag. The investigation then focused on Lashanda and her girlfriend, Johnna Lowe. During intense police interrogations, both women gave conflicting accounts, blamed others, and attempted to explain away increasingly disturbing evidence. Detectives uncovered allegations of severe punishment, food deprivation, physical abuse, and an elaborate attempt to cover up what had happened. As investigators confronted them with the medical examiner’s findings and contradictions in their stories, the truth surrounding Martonio’s final days began to emerge. Both women were ultimately charged with murder and gross abuse of a corpse. They later pleaded guilty and received life sentences with the possibility of parole after 15 years. This true crime documentary examines the police bodycam footage, missing-child investigation, interrogation footage, disturbing evidence, and detective work behind a case that shocked Columbus, Ohio. What warning signs do you think should have been taken more seriously before Martonio’s death? And after hearing both women’s accounts, who do you believe carried the greatest responsibility?
