The African Prince Who Became Russia's Greatest General

In 1704, an 8-year-old boy was taken from the Ethiopian highlands, shipped across the Sahara to the Ottoman court, and gifted to Tsar Peter the Great. He spoke no Russian. He had lost everything. What happened next defied every law of the 18th century. That boy became Abram Petrovich Gannibal—engineer, general, nobleman, and the great-grandfather of Alexander Pushkin. From the battlefields of France to the frozen exile of Siberia, this is the true story of the African intellectual who rose to the apex of the Russian Empire... and the powerful men who tried to bury his name. 📚 SOURCES & FURTHER READING: • "The Moor of St. Petersburg" by Hugh Barnes • "Abram Gannibal: The Moor of Peter the Great" by Dieudonné Gnammankou • Pushkin's unfinished novel "The Blackamoor of Peter the Great" 💬 WHAT'S ONE HISTORICAL FIGURE YOU THINK MORE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
