Description

📘 Get The Wendell's Deer Book here → https://wendellcoffey.com/deer There's a bag in the cow aisle that deer find, and the man selling deer corn isn't going to walk you down to it. Here's what cattle cubes do, what they don't, and the five things old hunters do with them. The five, counted down: 5. Mix it in slow: one can of cubes to three of corn the first week, then half and half, scattered thin on raked dirt. Never start a new feed in a hard winter. 4. Put out three days' worth and keep the rest dry in a lidded can. Rain turns a pile to mush. 3. Feed protein when it's wanted, in spring and summer. In October a cube is a draw that costs more than corn. (Roasted soybeans come closer to what corn ought to be.) 2. Know where it wins and where it doesn't, and know the law. 1. Turn the bag over. If the ingredient list has urea, non-protein nitrogen, cottonseed, Rumensin/monensin, lasalocid, Bovatec or "medicated", it goes back on the shelf. LAW: Tennessee's 2026-27 Deer Bait Privilege License ($50 resident, private land) allows corn, wheat, other grains, natural food and products made only for deer. As we read it, a cattle cube is not on that list. Ask TWRA before you hunt over one. No feeding in the CWD zone or a CWD-positive county. Pull your own state's regulations. Never start a new feed, corn included, in a hard winter. From the book: Part One, chapter 1.11 "Feeds That Beat Corn" and chapter 1.12 "What Corn Does and Doesn't Do".
