Description

📘 The Wendell's Deer Book: Part Four, "Closer to the Truck", for every hunter whose knees have started voting → https://wendellcoffey.com/deer I came down out of the tree in 2019. Here are the five things to fix first if you're past 65 and still hunting deer, and the old way my father hunted before anybody hung a stand. The five: 5. Fix the drag: sit down first, drag downhill with a harness, sled or cart, or wait for help. 4. Fix your ears, eyes and hands: good ear to the trail, glass on the rifle, and work the safety in your hunting gloves. 3. Fix the list you take to your doctor: the walk in, the cold, the sit, the drag, the pills. 2. If you still climb, climb tied in, from the ground up and all the way back down, and tell your wife which tree. 1. Hunt from the ground: in front of the log, the leaves raked out, the trail on your good side. Whether your knees or your heart belong on a ladder is your doctor's call. Tennessee: 500 square inches of blaze orange, head and upper body, front and back, in every season except archery-only. Check your own state's guide. From the book: Part Four, chapters 4.2 "Why I Came Down Out of the Tree", 4.3 "If You Still Climb", 4.4 "Sitting a Log" and 4.11 "Getting a Deer Out Alone".
