The father of the 16-year-old girl at the centre of the sexual grooming allegations against Sibiya is said to have almost 300 recordings of Sibiya’s meetings. According to evidence placed before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, Mr M allegedly documented meetings, conversations, locations and people connected to Sibiya. He allegedly told Sibiya’s wife, Sizakele Dlamini, that he had preserved the information because he feared it could become important and that a USB containing the material had been entrusted to someone he trusted. Dlamini’s affidavit also alleges that Mr M threatened to release documents and information to the police if he believed his name continued to be tarnished during Sibiya’s bail application and trial. The court heard claims involving alleged links between Sibiya, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, Brown Mogotsi and senior police officials. These remain allegations and have not been established as fact by the court. The court has also heard about an alleged recording in which Sibiya confronts Mr M after the criminal case was opened. The defence disputes the State’s interpretation of that recording and says it was taken out of context. Another major issue is an alleged call involving Bishop Azwihangwi Maumela, with the State alleging that Mr M was pressured to drop the charges. The defence maintains Sibiya did not instruct Maumela to intervene. Investigators have also raised allegations that police officer Matome Johannes Rasekgokga leaked sensitive case information to Sibiya. Sibiya faces charges including sexual grooming, rape and human trafficking. He denies the allegations and his defence maintains that the sexual encounter involving the 18-year-old complainant was consensual. His bail application has been postponed until Tuesday, 13 October, when the State is expected to provide affidavits from Mr M and the 18-year-old complainant. What exactly is contained in the alleged 300 recordings? And could the information on the secret USB become a major development in the Sibiya case?
