In today's video, I react to Tectone's "These people vote...", where he reacts to Warren Smith's coverage of a student arguing that Charlie Kirk deserved to die.
The student's reasoning is essentially that Kirk was discussing gang violence and gun violence shortly before he was killed, and that the fact that his alleged killer was a white man somehow makes his death deserved or ironic.
And this is where the argument completely falls apart.
You can think Charlie Kirk was wrong about politics.
You can think his opinions were offensive.
You can think his arguments were stupid.
None of that establishes that he deserved to be assassinated.
Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Prosecutors later charged Tyler Robinson with the killing and presented evidence they say links him to a planned assassination. The case subsequently became a major example of how political violence and online rhetoric can interact.
What's disturbing is how quickly some people turn a political disagreement into a justification for someone's death.
That's a line that shouldn't depend on which political side you're on.
If a conservative activist were killed because someone hated his beliefs, liberals would be justified in calling that political violence.
The same principle has to apply when the victim is a conservative.
Otherwise you're not defending a principle.
You're defending your team.
And the "irony" argument doesn't make the killing any less horrific. Yes, there is a debate over what Kirk meant when he discussed mass shootings and gang violence, including the distinction he was making in that particular discussion. But the fact that someone later killed him does not transform the killing into some kind of moral punchline.
The student's argument also reveals something much more dangerous: the idea that certain people can become so morally unacceptable that killing them becomes justified.
Once you accept that premise, where does it stop?
How bad do someone's political opinions have to be before you decide they no longer deserve to live?
And who gets to make that decision?
That's exactly why societies built around political disagreement need an absolute rejection of assassination as a political tool.
Argue.
Debate.
Protest.
Vote.
Make videos.
Mock someone's ideas.
Destroy their arguments.
Do literally anything except decide that a political opponent should be dead.
And the same goes for people who celebrate political violence after it happens. You don't have to mourn someone you disliked. You don't have to pretend their politics were good. You don't even have to personally care about their legacy.
But celebrating their murder because you hated their opinions is something else entirely.
In this video, I react to Tectone and Warren Smith's coverage, examine the student's reasoning, and discuss why political disagreements should never become a justification for political violence.
Because your opponent having terrible opinions...
...doesn't make murder a good argument.
