In today's video, I react to Colion Noir's "A School Shooter Got Inside… Then An Armed Dad Did The Unthinkable" covering the horrific shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, and the father who stepped in to stop the attacker.
On October 15, 2026, a 16-year-old entered the elementary school and opened fire, killing three children and a teacher. Another child and a teacher were critically injured.
And then something happened that deserves to be discussed.
A father with two daughters at the school decided he couldn't just sit there and wait.
His name is Kaylub Giamanco. According to police, Giamanco followed the attacker into the school and fatally shot him before officers arrived. Police received the first call at approximately 12:59 p.m. and arrived at 1:02 p.m. Multiple people attempted to intervene during those critical minutes, including Giamanco and a schoolteacher who confronted the attacker.
Think about that for a moment.
A father sent his children to school, expecting them to come home safely. Instead, he found himself in a situation where innocent children were in immediate danger, and he made the decision to act.
His family has said that he isn't seeking recognition and doesn't consider himself a hero. He reportedly feels that he didn't do enough.
I think that speaks volumes about the kind of person he is.
And it raises an uncomfortable question about how we prepare for school shootings.
For years, the debate over guns in schools has revolved around whether ordinary citizens should be allowed to carry firearms and whether armed adults create more risks than they prevent. But when an attacker is already inside a building, the situation becomes brutally simple: how do you stop the killing as quickly as possible?
Police response is essential. School security is essential. Locked doors, emergency procedures, and early detection can all buy precious time.
But what happens when the attacker is already inside and someone capable of stopping him is already there?
That's the question Colion Noir explores, including his own experiment testing how easily a standard classroom door lock could be defeated by gunfire. It raises serious questions about whether schools are adequately prepared for someone who is determined to enter.
I'm also interested in the broader debate over gun-free school policies.
The goal of keeping children safe is something everyone should share. But policies need to be evaluated by how well they actually protect students, not simply by whether they sound reassuring. If a policy prevents a law-abiding adult from being able to respond to an immediate threat, we should at least be willing to examine the consequences.
But his intervention illustrates why the presence of a capable, armed person can matter when seconds count.
And it makes me wonder why the discussion about firearms so often focuses exclusively on the risks of lawful gun ownership while giving less attention to circumstances in which an armed citizen can help stop a violent attacker.
In this video, I react to Colion Noir's coverage, discuss Kaylub Giamanco's actions, and examine the questions this tragedy raises about school security, gun-free policies, armed citizens, and the importance of having effective plans for emergencies.
Because nobody should have to face a situation like this.
But when it happens, every second matters.
