And for once, the news is actually GOOD. For nearly a century, the National Firearms Act has imposed special federal regulations on items like firearm suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), and short-barreled shotguns (SBSs). These restrictions included a $200 tax stamp, registration requirements, and waiting for government approval before making or transferring covered firearms. Now, things have changed dramatically. Congress reduced the federal making and transfer tax for these items to zero, effective January 1, 2026. Following a federal court ruling in Texas, the Department of Justice decided not to appeal, and on October 9, the ATF issued official guidance stating that it would no longer enforce the federal NFA approval, registration, and tax-stamp requirements for suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and certain other concealable firearms. That's a massive development for the Second Amendment. For decades, law-abiding gun owners have faced additional costs, paperwork, and administrative hurdles simply to own certain types of firearms and accessories. Removing those federal restrictions is a major step toward treating gun ownership as a constitutional right rather than a privilege that requires jumping through endless bureaucratic hoops. And that's what makes Brandon's video so exciting. He walks through the legal developments, explains the implications of the new guidance, and even brings in ATF Director Rob Sakata to discuss the changes and the agency's approach moving forward. The conversation raises an important question: how much of the old system was actually necessary for public safety, and how much was simply an unnecessary burden on people who follow the law? Suppressors are useful for reducing noise exposure and making shooting more comfortable. Short-barreled rifles and shotguns offer compact firearm configurations that have legitimate sporting, recreational, and practical applications. None of that automatically makes someone a criminal. Yet for decades, these items were subject to additional federal restrictions, even though the overwhelming majority of gun owners simply want to exercise their rights lawfully. Of course, there is still work to do. Some states maintain their own restrictions, and this change doesn't eliminate every federal firearm law or make every configuration legal everywhere. State and local laws still matter, and ordinary firearms eligibility and purchasing requirements continue to apply. But as a federal policy change, this is an enormous step forward. In this video, I react to Brandon Herrera's breakdown, discuss the significance of the new ATF guidance, and talk about why reducing unnecessary restrictions on law-abiding gun owners is something worth celebrating. Because the Second Amendment isn't supposed to depend on how much paperwork the government makes you complete.
