Description

This road just turned itself into a ramp. Concrete shrinks as it cools, so highways are cut into slabs every 15 feet, and each slab cracks neatly right under its cut. But when dirt and rocks pack those joints, the slabs have no room to swell in the summer heat, and they buckle upward. That's why the joints get filled with rubbery sealant to keep the rocks out: those dark lines you drive over on concrete highways. This 3D animation is a simplified simulation for illustration, not a recreation of a real incident. The orange glow on the fresh concrete is a picture of heat, not its real color. #Shorts #Engineering #HowItWorks
