Description

Arctic LNG 2 uses a massive gravity-based structure built far from the Utrenneye gas field and then towed thousands of kilometres to the Russian Arctic. The structure is around 1,100 feet long, about 30 storeys high and weighs roughly 640,000 tonnes. Its enormous hollow concrete base allows the whole industrial complex to float before it is positioned on a prepared seabed foundation. Once installed, natural gas from the nearby field is processed, stored in giant tanks inside the concrete base and loaded onto LNG carriers for export.
