Description

Off the coast of Namibia, the Benguela Gem mines diamonds from more than 100 metres beneath the Atlantic Ocean. A 370-ton tracked crawler works on the seabed, breaking and collecting diamond-bearing material before pumping it through a giant pipe to the ship. Onboard, the material is processed and rough diamonds are separated using an X-ray based recovery system. The vessel was designed to recover around 500,000 carats of diamonds per year.
