Description

At the exact hour Jesus was dying on the cross, thousands of Passover lambs were being killed in the temple just a short walk away — same day, same hour. That is not a coincidence. So why did Jesus have to die at this exact time, on this exact feast, and no other? Because Jesus didn't just die during Passover. He WAS the Passover. Fifteen hundred years before the cross, God gave Israel a ceremony (Exodus 12) and packed it with strange, specific details — and Jesus fulfilled every single one of them, down to the day and the hour, hitting marks the Roman soldiers didn't even know they were completing. Here are the six marks He hit exactly: • The right DAY — crucified on Passover, the 14th of Nisan ("Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed" — 1 Cor 5:7) • The right HOUR — died at the ninth hour (3pm), the exact time the lambs were slain • The SPOTLESS lamb — inspected 4 days, and Pilate, Herod, even Judas all declared Him without fault • NOT ONE BONE BROKEN — the soldiers broke the others' legs but not His (John 19:36, fulfilling Exodus 12:46) • The BLOOD on the door — which still has to be personally applied, by faith • DEATH PASSES OVER — the whole reason the feast exists Here's the heart of it. On that first Passover night in Egypt, a life was taken at every door — either the lamb's or the firstborn's. Death came to every home; the only question was whether it took the lamb or took the son. Where the blood was, the lamb had already died, so the son was spared. That is the cross, exactly. The judgment your sin deserves was real and coming — but at the cross, the Lamb of God stepped into its path at the precise moment it arrived, and took the full weight of it, so that it would pass over you. That's why the timing matters. He didn't die near the Passover — He kept an appointment God had set fifteen hundred years before, down to the day and the hour. And if God could time the death of His Son that precisely, He is not a God who improvises with your life either. 📖 Chapters / timestamps below. 🔔 Subscribe for more deep-dive Bible studies — the Bible is deep, it doesn't have to be complicated.
