Description

For roughly fifteen hundred years, the worship of God's people revolved around one disturbing thing: killing animals. Millions of lambs, goats, and bulls — blood poured out on an altar, day after day, for centuries. So why would a good God set up a system like that? And why, after fifteen hundred years, did it suddenly stop and never resume? Here's the thing most people miss: that entire system was never actually the point. It was a fifteen-hundred-year-long arrow, pointing forward — God teaching one lesson over and over, until the whole world was ready to understand it. And then one Man walked up to the whole system and ended it forever, not by ignoring it, but by fulfilling every last piece of it in a single afternoon. In this study we answer the questions almost no one asks: • Why blood at all? — because sin costs a life • Why a substitute? — the transfer of guilt (hands laid on the animal's head) • Why did it have to be spotless? — only a life that owes nothing can pay for a life that owes everything • Why repeated forever? — the flaw the system was confessing every single day • Why did the priests never sit down? — the detail hidden in the temple furniture • The day it all came true — when the true Lamb finally arrived Here's the heart of it. The book of Hebrews says something stunning: "it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins." The sacrifices never actually took sin away — they covered it, postponed it, and pointed forward. The endless repetition was a confession that nothing had worked yet. The priests could never sit down, because the work was never finished. And then, on the cross — at the very hour the Passover lambs were being killed in the temple — Jesus cried out three words no priest had ever been able to say: "It is finished." The veil tore in two. And Hebrews says this High Priest, "after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down." For the first time in fifteen hundred years, a priest sat down — because the work was finally done. That's why, within one generation, the temple was destroyed and the sacrifices stopped — and have never resumed to this day. There is nothing left to sacrifice. The final Lamb has been slain. If you've ever felt the weight of a debt you can never pay, the whole sacrifice system agrees with you — you can't pay it. But you don't have to. It is finished. 📖 Chapters / timestamps below. 🔔 Subscribe for more deep-dive Bible studies — the Bible is deep, it doesn't have to be complicated.
