Our biggest mistake was keeping - and entrenching - the colonisers' division lines in Africa. So argues Julius Malema. In the fight for independence, we lost sight of the fact that the 'African nations' that we were fighting to free from the colonisers were in fact European constructs, not African at all. The borders placed on the map of Africa at the Berlin Conference by imperial powers reflected their interests, not ours.
