Description

Picasso was a genius, there's no doubt about it. But one of his most revolutionary paintings was inspired by stolen African art he'd seen in a Paris museum. And yet, famously, he claimed: 'Negro art? Don't know it.' Absolutely nothing wrong with artists finding inspiration in the art of other cultures - in fact, it's part and parcel of the creative process. But while a white European male gets all the credit for revolutionising art, Africa's contribution was written off as mere 'primitive' curiosities. Seems unjust.
