Description

In the fifties you could buy a Grand Prix car, send off an entry and line up against Ferrari. A landscape painter did it. So did a Bristol garage owner, and a 24-year-old from Stroud whose dad's motorbike spares business paid for his Cooper. At Monza in 1961, that 24-year-old beat a works BRM to fourth place by a tenth of a second. Here's how they did it, and how Formula One shut that door for good. Which of the three would you have wanted to share a race weekend with? Tell me in the comments.
