Description

On the twenty ninth of July 1973, early in the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, Roger Williamson's March crashed, flipped and caught fire. One driver stopped. David Purley pulled his own March 731 onto the verge, abandoned his race and ran to the burning car. He tried to turn it over with his bare hands, while marshals with no fireproof clothing struggled to help and the rest of the field kept racing past. This is the story of that afternoon, the rules that let the race go on, and the George Medal a small privateer team's driver earned for trying. Tell me in the comments which moment of racing history you think deserves the next video. I go through every single one.
