Description
Arabesque was one of the most memorable female disco groups of the late 1970s and early 1980s. With their infectious melodies, glamorous stage costumes, and unmistakable Eurodisco sound, the German trio became international stars, particularly in Japan.
Formed in Frankfurt, West Germany, in 1977, Arabesque became famous for their catchy disco-pop songs and energetic performances.
The group's best-known lineup featured Sandra Ann Lauer, Michaela Rose, and Jasmin Vetter. Sandra would later become an international solo superstar with hits such as "Maria Magdalena," "In the Heat of the Night," and "Everlasting Love."
Although Arabesque never achieved the same level of commercial success in their native Germany, they developed a devoted following in Japan, where their records became enormously popular.
Some of their best-loved songs include:
• Hello Mr. Monkey (1977)
• Friday Night (1978)
• Midnight Dancer (1980)
• Marigot Bay (1981)
• In for a Penny, In for a Pound (1981)
• Rock Me After Midnight (1983)
Arabesque represented everything that made the Eurodisco era special: irresistible rhythms, memorable melodies, colorful fashions, and a sense of fun.
Their music remains a wonderful reminder of the golden age of European disco.
