Description

Sandra – Secret Land (1988) | A Beautiful 80s Synth-Pop Classic Released on September 26, 1988, "Secret Land" is one of Sandra's most atmospheric and memorable recordings. With its dreamy synthesizers, haunting melodies, and Sandra's distinctive vocals, the song perfectly captures the romantic and mysterious sound of late-1980s European synth-pop. The song appeared on Sandra's third studio album, "Into a Secret Land," and became another international success for the German pop star. Born Sandra Ann Lauer on May 18, 1962, in Saarbrücken, West Germany, Sandra became one of Europe's most successful female pop singers of the 1980s. Before launching her solo career, Sandra was the lead singer of the disco group Arabesque, which enjoyed considerable popularity in Japan. Her breakthrough as a solo artist came in 1985 with "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena," an international hit that established her as a major figure in European pop music. Throughout the decade, Sandra released a series of memorable hits, including "In the Heat of the Night," "Hi! Hi! Hi!," "Everlasting Love," "Heaven Can Wait," and "Secret Land." Much of her signature sound was developed with producer Michael Cretu, who later became internationally famous for his Enigma music project. SECRET LAND • Released September 26, 1988, as the second single from Sandra's third studio album, "Into a Secret Land." • Produced by Michael Cretu, whose polished electronic arrangements helped define Sandra's distinctive sound. • The song was adapted from "Trenchcoat Man," a 1987 recording by the German group Fabrique. • Reached No. 7 in Germany and No. 9 in Switzerland, becoming another European hit for Sandra. • The original 1988 single ran approximately 4 minutes and 5 seconds. • The maxi-single included a longer "Reverse Mix" as well as a special dub version. • The original music video was filmed in France, featuring beautiful locations around Mont-Saint-Michel and Saint-Malo. • In 1999, a new remix of "Secret Land" was released, introducing the song to another generation of listeners. With its rich electronic production, emotional atmosphere, and unmistakable 1980s character, "Secret Land" remains a wonderful example of the golden age of European synth-pop. #SecretLand #80sMusic #SynthPop #EuroPop #IntoASecretLand #MichaelCretu #1988 #80sClassics
