Description

For over a century, American churches followed unwritten rules that shaped how people gave, worshiped, believed, and belonged. Within a few decades, many congregations quietly set them aside, and no council ever voted to end them. In this documentary, we examine five long-standing traditions of American church history: the offering plate, sacred architecture, church membership and accountability, expository preaching, and congregational singing. Drawing on Scripture, denominational records, and research from sociologists of religion, we explore what churches gained, what they may have given up, and why it matters. We are not here to argue for or against any denomination. We are here to understand. If you grew up in church, how does this history compare to what you were taught?
