Battle Of Zama #scipio

Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus (236-183 BC) was the Roman general who broke Carthage’s dominance in the Second Punic War. After Rome suffered catastrophic defeats at Trebia, Lake Trasimene, and Cannae, Scipio took command in Hispania. He captured Carthago Nova in 209 BC, defeated Carthaginian armies at Baecula and Ilipa, and dismantled their power in Iberia. He then invaded North Africa, forcing Hannibal to abandon Italy after more than 15 years of campaigning. At Zama in 202 BC, Scipio defeated Hannibal’s army and effectively ended the war. The victory made Rome the dominant power of the western Mediterranean and earned Scipio the name “Africanus.” #ancientrome #spqr #romanempire #romanhistory #hannibal
