Veerappan: The Phantom of the Sathyamangalam Forest | 2D Animation

This documentary tells the complete, fact-based story of Koose Muniswamy Veerappan — the Tamil poacher from Gopinatham village who became India's most wanted criminal for over two decades. From his first kill at age 17 to the assassination of forest officer P. Srinivas, from the landmine massacre that killed 22 policemen to the 108-day kidnapping of Kannada superstar Dr. Rajkumar — this is the full, cinematic story of a man who murdered 184 people, poached over 2,000 elephants, smuggled 10,000 tonnes of sandalwood worth billions, and evaded the combined forces of three state governments for twenty years. And finally, how STF chief K. Vijay Kumar's brilliant Operation Cocoon brought this jungle ghost to his end on the night of 18 October 2004. Key Topics Covered in This Video: Veerappan's childhood in Gopinatham and entry into ivory poaching at age 10 His first human kill at 17 and rise as jungle's undisputed ruler The brutal murder of forest officer P. Srinivas and landmine massacre of 22 policemen His Robin Hood image — how village networks protected him for decades The 108-day kidnapping of Dr. Rajkumar and its aftermath Kidnapping and murder of former Karnataka minister H. Nagappa STF chief K. Vijay Kumar's Operation Cocoon — the fake ambulance trap Veerappan's final night — 338 bullets and the end of a 20-year manhunt Why This Story Matters: Veerappan's story is not just about one criminal — it is about a system that failed for twenty years. It raises questions that still don't have answers: who supplied him with AK-47s and modern weapons? Which politicians and officials protected him for two decades? Why did three state governments with thousands of armed personnel fail against one man and his hundred followers? This story is a mirror to the complex relationship between poverty, power, jungle survival, and the limits of the Indian state — told through the most cinematic true-crime chapter in Indian history.
