Description

Jensen Huang's distinction is simple. Your job and the tasks you do inside that job are related, but they aren't the same thing. His own example: his job is running Nvidia. His tasks are typing and talking. AI does both of those better than he does, and he says he's busier than ever. Then he goes after a specific claim. Someone said 90% of software coding would be gone, so we wouldn't need software engineers. That was Dario Amodei at a Council on Foreign Relations event in March 2025, and he gave it three to six months. By February this year, Amodei said the 90% mark had been hit in some places including Anthropic, then called it "a very weak criterion." He added that reading it as fewer engineers was a misreading. Nvidia's own headcount makes the point better than any argument. The company closed its last fiscal year with about 42,000 employees, roughly 31,000 of them in R&D. A decade earlier it had 9,227 people in total and 6,566 in R&D. Engineering headcount nearly quintupled over the exact years coding was being automated. His other example is radiologists, and it holds up. Average radiologist pay reached $571,000 last year, up 9%. There were 7,469 open radiology jobs in the US as of May, 1,470 of them unfilled for over two months. That's the profession Geoffrey Hinton told people to stop training for back in 2016. The useful question isn't what you do all day. It's what you're there to accomplish. Those two come apart under pressure, and only one of them is your job. 🔎 We fact-checked 10 expert AI predictions so you know whose calls are worth listening to. It's free in channel bio.
