Description
There are ten weeks between today and Christmas morning, and that is exactly how long the hotel countdown takes. One job a week, three small things a day, and you buy nothing.
A hotel can never close for a Saturday. So it never does one big clear-out. Neither will you.
MY BOOK: The Spotless Method, the whole system written down in the order I'd actually do it.
spotlessmethod.com
I spent forty years in hotel housekeeping, and every October the holiday board went up in the linen room: one job per week, the same seven days every week, only the job changed. That's the plan in this video, cut to ten weeks and fitted to a house with one woman in it. Week one starts Monday the nineteenth of October and week ten is Christmas week, which has no project at all. If you're watching in November, don't go back to week one. Start on the week that matches the date. Nothing here needs a ladder, your knees, or anything above your shoulder. A grandchild carries, you sort sitting down.
The ten weeks:
1. The clothing changeover (October 19)
2. The hard pile, thirty minutes, three mornings (October 26)
3. Eight-tenths full, the linen room rule (November 2)
4. The guilt items (November 9)
5. The front door and the landing spots, the fix for why nothing ever stuck (November 16)
6. Thanksgiving week, the guest room and the table (November 23)
7. The paper, before December triples it (November 30)
8. One in, one out, and the week things leave (December 7)
9. A third of the decorations, and the short clean (December 14)
10. Christmas week, no project (December 21)
Plus: the three daily things, the same seven days every week, what to do about the week you're going to lose, and the one question for anything the weeks don't cover.
Which week are you starting on today, and what's the one surface in your house the whole family already knows about? Tell me in the comments. I read every one.
New videos every week on keeping a lovely home after 60, gently, and in the right order.
