China refines 91% of the world's rare earths and builds 94% of the world's permanent magnets. Your phone, your earbuds, every electric motor and the guidance system in a Tomahawk missile all depend on that supply. It explains why Trump tied support for Ukraine to a minerals deal, and why Washington spent a year trying to take Greenland from an ally.
Then Beijing turned that position into a weapon. Seven elements went under export licence, then five more. If a product contains Chinese rare earths worth 0.1% of its value, you need permission from Beijing to sell it. Since July, anyone who reports a company for skipping the paperwork gets paid.
Here is the part almost nobody covers. The monopoly is cracking. A third of world production now happens outside China. And the rock behind the elements nobody can replace does not come from China at all. It comes from a war zone in northern Myanmar, run by a few thousand fighters who shut the tap on Beijing and made it pay.
In this video I explain how China built the monopoly, how it turned it into a weapon, and why the 10th of November matters to anyone who ships a product containing a motor, a speaker or a magnet.
