Description

The Most Dangerous Predators of the African Savannah (Full Episode) | Wildlife Documentary. Dawn on the Mara River, and three empires wake along a border no map has drawn: a Nile crocodile that has held one bend for fifty years, a black maned lion on the eastern ridge, and a spotted hyena clan calling from the rocks. Across four hours of chained chapters, the three most dangerous predators in Africa hunt, steal and defend the same stretch of savanna, and no ruler holds the throne for long. Through cinematic footage and educational storytelling, this documentary begins beneath the water with Golden Eye, nearly twenty feet and over a thousand pounds, whose ancestors swam here before the dinosaurs vanished. His heart slows to two beats a minute, his stomach runs at a pH of one, and his bite of nearly five thousand pounds is the strongest ever measured, five times a bone crushing hyena. When the Great Migration reaches the Mara, six thousand two hundred and fifty wildebeest drown every year and crocodiles hunt in pairs, one anchoring the carcass while the other spins the death roll. Then the film clears the name of the hyena: a heart double a lion, fifteen mile pursuits, and a matriarchy where the youngest daughter inherits the crown. In Akagera, Rwanda, returning lions show how fear alone reshapes a landscape. On the Mara plains a pride stalks a wildebeest to fifteen yards and ends it with the suffocating bite, and a pride of thirty seven takes on the armored Cape buffalo at midday, when heat weakens the wall of horns. Vultures, marabou storks and hyenas divide what is left. And in August all three kingdoms meet at the crossing: death below in the water, death above on the bank, and thirteen hyenas waiting to rob them both. 0:00 Three Empires, One River 2:52 Golden Eye: Fifty Years at One Bend 7:16 A Heart That Beats Twice a Minute 9:05 Five Thousand Pounds of Bite 10:08 The Great Migration Reaches the Mara 11:45 The Death Roll, Done in Pairs 12:52 The Hyena: Not the Coward 13:35 A Heart Twice the Size of a Lion 14:49 The Matriarchy 16:24 Last Born, First to Rule 17:11 Hyenas and Jackals 19:21 The Laughing Siege 20:07 Akagera: When the Lions Were Gone 21:41 The Landscape of Fear 22:38 Lions by Daylight: Eyes Built for Night 23:49 The Wildebeest Stalk 26:30 The Suffocating Bite 27:50 The Scramble at the Kill 30:21 The Pride That Hunts Buffalo 32:11 Eleven Months to Build a Survivor 33:34 A Fortress of Horns 35:52 Midday: the Wall Weakens 37:59 Thirty Seven Lions Move 39:21 The Giant Falls 41:19 The Scavenger Hierarchy 43:58 August: the Crossing 45:30 Death From Below, Death From Above 46:14 Thirteen Hyenas at One Kill 48:07 The Circle Closes 48:56 Ankarana: Crocodiles in the Dark 49:34 A Calf Is Born 51:23 Who Is the True Ruler 52:52 Lions vs Hyenas: War for the Carcass 1:52:52 Crocodiles of the Mara: the Crossing 2:52:52 Lion Pride vs Buffalo Herd Epic Moments in This Documentary: Golden Eye rising one inch above the surface after a vigil that began before dawn Two crocodiles anchoring and rolling a wildebeest until a leg comes free A hyena clan holding a fifteen mile pursuit until the prey cannot lift its hooves A matriarch surrounding a kill with laughter until the hunters give it up Lions returning to Akagera and the riverbanks growing back out of fear alone A lioness closing to fifteen yards through the grass before the pounce Thirty seven lions spreading out around a buffalo basin at midday A lappet faced vulture opening buffalo hide that no other bird can breach Wildebeest leaping into the Mara with a crocodile below and lions on the far bank Thirteen hyenas swarming a lioness the moment her kill hits the ground Lions and hyenas at war over a carcass, and a pride taking on a buffalo herd Behind the drama is a system. Eleven hundred tons of wildebeest sink into the Mara every year and feed the river for hundreds of miles downstream. A crocodile turns fifty to seventy percent of a meal into energy and can fast for more than a year. And in Akagera, buffalo stopped grazing the streams bare the moment lions came back, without a single extra kill. The true ruler is the one still standing when the river runs dry. This documentary contains raw, unfiltered footage of nature at its most intense. Viewer discretion is advised. All footage is captured in the wild with no interference to natural animal behavior.
