The Amhara Were Never Who We Thought — DNA Revealed Their Hidden Origin

Amhara genetics tell a story far older than traditional history suggests. We analyze a 4,500-year-old burial to find the truth.Researchers are using the genomes of living populations alongside ancient remains to reconstruct the demographic history of Ethiopia. By examining a burial site dating back four and a half thousand years, scientists can track the complex patterns of human migration that shaped the region. This analysis separates local cultural evolution from outside contact, clarifying how different groups settled the area. The data focuses on the intersection of Horn of Africa populations and Eurasian lineages. By mapping these DNA sequences, we can visualize the movement of people and the genetic diversity that defines the region today. This is a look at the science of Ancient DNA and what it reveals about the deep ancestry of the Amhara people.
