Description

Nú set ek stǫng. Nú set ek níð. Egill Skallagrímsson raised a horse's head on a hazel pole and turned it against King Eiríkr Bloodaxe and Queen Gunnhildr. He carved his curse in runes and called on the land spirits to drive them from Norway. This is that curse, sung in Old Norse. No peace on your mountain. No rest in your bed. No wind for your ship. No light in your victories. 🎵 Stream & Support Runes of the North: ➤ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/intl-de/artist/3F9TzfzqfNcCnNdLIOUuLh?si=4fa57afb26984d54 ➤ Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/runes-of-the-north/1834777726 ➤ Tidal: https://tidal.com/artist/65784404 ➤ Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.de/artists/B0FNC2ZRLL/runes-of-the-north ➤ YouTube Music: https://music.youtube.com/channel/UCBs5X2bPMaApmCeHwNxJ0Ag ➤ Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/de/artist/342337011 ➤ Pandora: https://www.pandora.com/artist/runes-of-the-north/ARpK9n6qqv7jfbX Follow: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/runesofthenorth/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/runesofthenorth_official/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@runesofthenorth_official ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ THE STORY Around 936 AD, the Icelandic skald Egill Skallagrímsson stood on the shore of Herdla and raised a níðstǫng, a scorn-pole. A horse skull on hazel wood, its dead eyes turned toward the mainland, runes cut into the shaft. His words called on the landvættir, the spirits of the land itself, to give Eiríkr and Gunnhildr no rest until they were driven from the country. Within two years, Eiríkr Bloodaxe lost his throne. Whether the pole did it or politics did, the sagas remember the curse. This song gives it a voice again: the horse head high on the heath, the queen's seiðr, the ravens over the hillside, and the final words spoken into the wind. Lyrics written in Old Norse. Sung the old way. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ New dark Viking chants, Old Norse ritual music and Nordic soundscapes released regularly.
