Váli (Baldr's Avenger) Old Norse Viking Music

Born to avenge. When bright Baldr fell by the mistletoe dart, Frigg wept in Fensalir and the gods mourned. But Óðinn rode west to the hall of Rindr, and from that union came Váli, who grew to a warrior in a single night, unwashed and uncombed, and did not rest until Höðr lay dead and his brother was avenged. This is his song. Óðinn ríðr vestr, til Rindar salar, sonr skal getask, sá er hefna mun. Einnættr gengr hann, Óðins ungr sonr, óþveginn, ókembðr, Váli, Váli, hefnir! Rindr berr Vála í vestrsǫlum, einnættr at aptni, alvápnaðr ferr. Hendr þværat hann, hǫfuð né kembir, áðr Baldrs andskoti á bál er borinn. Boga dregr Váli, happskeytr halr, Hǫð hann fellir, hefnd er goldin. Baldr er hefndr, bál er kulnat, Váli einn lifir, er ferr verǫld. Einnættr... Óðins sonr... hefnd án enda, Váli gengr enn... English translation: Baldr is fallen, the bright god dead, Frigg weeps in Fensalir, the mistletoe struck. Óðinn rides west, to Rindr's hall, a son shall be begotten, one who will avenge. One night old he walks, Óðinn's young son, unwashed, uncombed, Váli, Váli, avenger! Rindr bears Váli in the western halls, one night old by evening, fully armed he goes. He washes not his hands, nor combs his head, before Baldr's foe is borne to the pyre. Váli draws the bow, the sure shooting man, Höðr he fells, vengeance is paid. Baldr is avenged, the pyre grown cold, Váli alone lives on as the world moves on. One night old... Óðinn's son... vengeance without end, Váli walks still... #OldNorse #NorseMythology #Vali #Baldr #Odin #Viking #VikingMusic #NordicFolk #DarkFolk #RunesOfTheNorth
