Gørningaveðr (The Conjured Storm) | Old Norse Viking Music

Gørningaveðr (The Conjured Storm) — a dark Old Norse folk chant about a seiðr-worker who summons a storm out of the northern sea. Authentic Old Norse lyrics in Fornyrðislag meter, with full English translation below. ▶ Listen everywhere / full links: (siehe unten) A völva stands at the grey cliff and speaks words no one hears. The sea answers — black, blind, and rising. This is a song about the moment human hands lose control of what they called into being: the conjured-weather, gørningaveðr, taking its toll. Ravens ring overhead, masts break in black measure, and the storm sings on long after the last verse. Runes of the North creates atmospheric Nordic and Viking music rooted in real Old Norse language and skaldic tradition — for fans of Nordic folk, ritual ambient, and dark Scandinavian soundscapes. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎧 STREAM & FOLLOW ➤ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/intl-de/artist/3F9TzfzqfNcCnNdLIOUuLh ➤ Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/runes-of-the-north/1834777726 ➤ Tidal: https://tidal.com/artist/65784404 ➤ Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.de/artists/B0FNC2ZRLL/runes-of-the-north ➤ YouTube Music: https://music.youtube.com/channel/UCBs5X2bPMaApmCeHwNxJ0Ag ➤ Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/de/artist/342337011 ➤ Pandora: https://www.pandora.com/artist/runes-of-the-north/ARpK9n6qqv7jfbX ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📜 ABOUT THE SONG "Gørningaveðr" means conjured or witched weather — a storm raised by magic rather than nature. In the Old Norse world, seiðr was the craft of shaping fate and weather through chant. This song follows a woman who calls the storm and then watches it pass beyond any human power to stop: ships carried without mercy, no shield nor iron nor wood holding against what was woken.
