Description

Why are Japanese people so thoughtful? This vlog follows an ordinary day in Japan. After a long time, I finally had a quiet morning to myself. I made onigiri, walked through a park where lotus flowers were blooming, visited a hair salon, and stopped by the supermarket. In these simple, everyday moments, I found the small acts of thoughtfulness that are naturally woven into daily life in Japan. Nothing extraordinary happened that day. It was simply an ordinary day, yet it reminded me how deeply thoughtfulness is woven into everyday life here. If you're curious about Japanese culture or what omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) looks like beyond hotels and restaurants, I hope this video offers you a small window into everyday life in Japan. 🍙 Recipe: Ume & Shiso Onigiri (Makes 4) Ingredients ・2 cups uncooked Japanese short-grain rice (cooked) ・4 shiso leaves (perilla leaves), thinly sliced ・2 small pickled plums (umeboshi), pits removed and finely chopped ・1 tsp white sesame seeds ・A small handful of bonito flakes (katsuobushi) ・2 tsp mentsuyu (Japanese noodle soup base) Instructions 1.Remove the stems from the shiso leaves. Stack them, roll them up, and slice them into thin strips. 2.Remove the pits from the umeboshi and finely chop the flesh. 3.While the rice is still warm, gently mix in all the ingredients. 4.Shape into 4 onigiri, using just enough pressure to hold them together without crushing the rice. 🍙 Tip: The secret to delicious onigiri is to handle the rice gently. Press just firmly enough so it holds its shape while keeping the rice light and fluffy. Thank you so much for watching! If you enjoyed this video, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
